THE AERC 2020–2025 STRATEGIC PLAN
» Developing digital and print-policy packages customized by country on
economic issues, success stories from other countries on implementation, and
latest policy recommendations based on AERC supported research;
» Building a database of alumni using Salesforce for Education: identifying alumni
by programme participation and areas of research; topical areas of interest;
country of residence; universities attended; and latest research;
» Conducting policy communications outreach in coordination with regional
institutions and funders to inform policymakers on the work of AERC, best-policy
practice, and available policy and research resources (knowledge centre);
» Creating subregional policy-network associations, operated subregionally with
ownership and oversight maintained by AERC;
» Positioning leading economists – who are members of AERC’s alumni network
– on economic issues in the region and by subregion (East, West, Southern,
Central) in the media and at regional and national convenings;
» Showcasing AERC outputs, especially where success can be shared; and
» Popularizing AERC as a Think-Net (a network of researchers, trainers, policy
institutions, and think tanks).
The Outputs
Understanding of – and access to – evidence-based economic policy recommendations
provided by AERC will be improved among policymakers, funders, and institutions in
the region. An active and mobilized network of alumni will be positioned to highlight
the trending economic issues in the region, furthering AERC’s visibility and value with
stakeholders. Capacity will be increased within ministries of finance and central banks to
conduct research and implement economic policy reforms to create an environment for
stability and growth.
