THE AERC 2020–2025 STRATEGIC PLAN
The AERC Governance and
Management
Responsibility for implementing the strategy rests here. Previous evaluations and
reviews have underscored the effectiveness of AERC’s management and administration
operations, coupled with the strength of its governing structures.
Governance
The AERC’s activities are managed by a governance structure comprising the Board of
Directors, the Programme Committee, and the Secretariat supported by Academic
Advisory Boards. The organs maintain distinctive functions and roles for effective
coordination, implementation, and monitoring of activities, as well as management
of resources. The Board of Directors is charged with fiduciary oversight, approving
the Consortium’s five-year strategic plan and budgets, as well as providing oversight
of programme management. An Audit and Risk Committee has been established to
strengthen the risk-management and internal-control systems, with the support of an
internal audit.
The primary function of the Programme Committee is to set the research and training
agenda in consultation with the Secretariat. The Academic Advisory Boards are
responsible for the content and quality control of graduate programmes; approving
programme content; and setting the criteria and procedures for evaluating quality of
teaching in the economics, agricultural, and applied economics departments of network
universities.
