Congratulations Dr. Adelaide Retselisitsoe Matlanyane on your appointment as the Minister of Finance for Lesotho. This is such an incredible opportunity, and I can’t think of anyone better suited to that role than you. On behalf of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Board of Directors and the entire network, we are very happy to celebrate this important career milestone with you. Please accept our warmest compliments on your new appointment.

The Kingdom of Lesotho is fortunate to have you in this leadership position, and of course, as a cabinet minister. It is an extraordinary opportunity to serve your country. The AERC Board is proud of you and appreciates all the passion and dedication you have shared with the team through the years. 

We, your colleagues on the Board, have always known you were destined for great things, and now the rest of the world has caught up. We appreciate your association with the AERC for more than 20 years in various capacities, having served as a member of the AERC Programme Committee (2008-2014) and the Chair of the Programme Committee over the period 2010 – 2014. As an Alumnus of the Collaborative Training programmes, the power of your success has inspired and motivated many female economists in the AERC network. It is pushing them to go above and beyond, and I am sure they are applauding you in your new position, wherever they are across Africa. It is our hope that your boundless dedication will continue to be seen at AERC’s activities in which you have participated with passion on numerous occasions. These include chairing sessions at AERC flagship events, such as the Plenary Session of the Biannual Research Workshop and the annual Senior Policy Seminar. 

You successfully served as Governor of the Central Bank of Lesotho from March 2012 to December 2021, and we know that every success has a story behind it. Undoubtedly, your skill level and determination can recharge anyone with the power they need to keep on working harder. Thus, with all your experience, you will indeed make an exceptional Finance Minister. Your success will be AERC’s success, and it will be good for the African continent, and this brings us great pride.

As you get on with your new obligations, I wish to assure you and the entire AERC fraternity of the continuing collaboration. I am confident that you will successfully steer the Ministry of Finance to greater prospects and play a constructive role in the growth of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
