Anke Hoeffler


Prof. Anke Hoeffler is professor of Development Research at the Department of Politics & Public Administration at the University of Konstanz. In June 2018 she was offered an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship, Germany’s most valuable international research award.

Before coming to Konstanz she was a research officer at the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) at the University of Oxford.

She holds a Diplom in Volkswirschaftslehre from the University of Würzburg and an MSc in economics from Birkbeck College, University of London. She received my DPhil in economics from the University of Oxford in 1999. My research interests are wide ranging and often interdisciplinary. Broadly she is interested in the social causes of excess morbidity and mortality. At the University of Konstanz she is in the process of setting up research group on ‘Conflict and Development Research’, providing a forum for researchers from across the disciplines to collaborate on violence related topics. Since March 2020 she researches affiliate with ISDC – International Security and Development Center in the global research project life with corona
