The launch of AERC goes back to the late 1980s, when a group of Africanists and African scholars recognized the disconnect between economic policy making and economic research in Africa.

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is transitioning from its current Strategic Plan (2020-2025) to a transformative 10-year Strategic Plan (2025-2035), which includes a comprehensive reorganization of its research activities. This transition will involve the integration of collaborative research, thematic research, PhD training, and policy engagement. For more information, please refer to the communique.
The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is transitioning from its current Strategic Plan (2020-2025) to a transformative 10-year Strategic Plan (2025-2035).
