Senior Policy Seminars

A key part of AERC's dissemination strategy is to enhance the relationship between the economic policy researcher and the policy maker by availing opportunities for the two to meet and discuss topics of most importance and interest in sub-Saharan Africa. One avenue for accomplishing this is the senior policy seminar.

The purpose of these seminars is to create an environment for the exchange of experience in identified areas and the identification of research priorities, as well as for highlighting a growing capacity for policy research within the region.

The first of these seminars was held in 1995 in Nairobi. It focused on exchange rate, fiscal and financial policy, as well as the policy process itself. The second seminar, in Abidjan in 1996, addressed the issue of financial sector reform. Fiscal policy was discussed at the third seminar held in Accra in 1997; budget revenue mobilization was the topic of the fourth seminar in Gaborone in 2000, the fifth seminar, held in Dar es Salaam in 2002 focused on poverty reduction and macroeconomic management in Africa, the sixth seminar held in Kampala focused on Mobilization of Resources for Financing Pro-Poor Growth in Africa, the seventh held in Cape Town focused on Growth, Poverty and Institutions, the eighth held in Dakar Focused on Governance and Pro-poor Growth in Sub-Saharan Africa, the ninth held in Yaoundé, Cameroon focused on Managing Commodity Booms in Sub-Saharan Africa, the tenth was on Climate change and economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa, eleventh on the global financial crisis and it's implications for the African economics, twelveth on bank regulatory reforms in Africa: enhancing bank competition and intermediation efficiency and the thirteenth on natural resource management in sub saharan Africa.
